OTSUKI Shuhei

Born in 1981. Lives in Kyoto Pref.
OTSUKI's colorful works have a unique production process. First, he draws a rough sketch on colored paper, which has adhesive on the back side, and cuts it out with scissors. The cut-outs are stored in a box, and when he has enough of them, he pastes them on the paper. The stickers are numbered in the order in which they are pasted. Next, about 10 colors of oil pastels were selected and used on the paper after the stickers were pasted. During the process of creation, the surface may be scraped off with a needle. It is a complex and delicate process, but the quickest works are completed in about five days.
His method of creating has not changed since he was in elementary school, and has been a routine for more than 30 years. The growing number of works piled up in his room now number more than 600.

CHIHARA Ryota

CHIHARA was fascinated by colors and numbers from an early age. At the supermarket, he would eagerly look at the bath salts and air fresheners section, and on his birthday he would beg for a set of 100 colored pencils as a present. On the radio, he liked to experiment with tuning rather than listen to music, listening to foreign broadcasts and white noise. The numbers scattered across the paper were often derived from things he liked, such as the color numbers of the colored pencils, radio frequencies, multiples of 9, and bus route numbers. He began drawing colors and numbers around the age of two, when he was able to hold a pen, and continues to do so to this day.
The mood of his works varies greatly depending on the drawing materials he uses. When he uses drawing paper, he often uses watercolors to create abstract color compositions, and when he uses the reverse side of printed matter, he often uses colored pencils to repeat numbers and figures.

CHAZONO Daiki

CHAZONO's masterpieces are pastel drawings of runway models for fashion magazines, but they are not mere reproductions of photographs. He began drawing around the age of five, and when he was in junior high school, newspaper inserts sparked his interest in fashion, and he began buying magazines. At first, he copied bags and accessories, but gradually began to draw mainly models, establishing his current style. When he sells his works at art fairs and other events, he buys ready-to-wear items from his favorite brands. Perhaps it is the experience of actually holding the clothes in his hands that motivates him to create, rather than just drawing them.

YAMAMOTO Haruo

YAMAMOTO faithfully draws and copies advertisements, fashion magazines, animal picture books, and so on using colored pencils and pens. We can see when he started drawing, which colors he used, and how long it took him to complete his work. The date and time of creation, colors used, and other information are recorded on the picture.
In addition to magazines and illustrated books, the paintings also contain detailed depictions of items that have been around for many years, such as musical scores, song lyric cards, New Year's cards, a radio-cassette player, and dentures. In addition to the paintings, the letterheads piled up in his room record the time of day, weather, meals, bathing, train information, and other events in an orderly, geometric pattern, with a day's worth of information organized almost on a single page.

SHIMOMURA Masahiro

SHIMOMURA commutes to Mizunagi Gakuen every day and completes two pieces in about two and a half hours. Using oil-based pens and coupy-pencils, the strongly colored works are often linear in expression, as he makes full use of rulers for most of the process. In one corner of the painting is a signature and the western calendar, but the number is actually one year ahead of the actual production. Shimomura's main motif is a scene of people standing on the horizon, illuminated by the setting sun. Locations include cityscapes lined with houses, natural landscapes, and even the sea of Maizuru sometimes appears, which is SHIMOMURA's home town. The backlit silhouettes give us room for free imagination. When we look at his paintings, we somehow find ourselves projected into them, just as we do when we look at a sunset.

FUJIMOTO Masato ＋ KATO Takuji

Cassette tapes are being passed around between FUJIMOTO and KATO today. One might think that spinning a cassette tape means listening to music, but that is not the case. FUJIMOTO threads a rubber band with a string attached through the cassette tape in the case, adjusts it to a balanced position, and holds the end of the string as if he were playing a sparkler. After gazing at the scenery reflected in the spinning cassette, he removes the cassette from the case and silently hands it to KATO. KATO receives the cassette, puts it back together, and hands it to FUJIMOTO. FUJIMOTO stares at it, then takes it apart again. KATO again begins to work like a craftsman. This exchange has been repeated for nearly 40 years. Even the good-natured KATO seems to get fed up with it at times, but the mysterious activity of cassette spinning continues to this day.

INOUE Rie

Born in 2004. Lives in Kyoto Pref.
There are many targets for INOUE's admiration, including announcers, video distributors, singers, and idols. She performs under several different names, and creates videos under the guise of these subjects, making full use of her smartphone and other devices. Her content is diverse, and she has published nearly 3,000 videos, sometimes baffling those around her with her eccentric acts and behavior.
In addition to videos, INOUE's admiration can also be seen in a self-written booklet titled "National Announcer's Directory.” The booklet contains detailed information about the characters, including their birth dates, hometowns, and the programs they have appeared in, as if they are projecting themselves onto the characters and their industry. The drawings are done on a daily basis using copy paper, pens, and other drawing materials purchased through online shopping.
