In May 1971, a painting class proposed by YAMASAKI Toshio was established at Kyoto Prefectural Rakunan Hospital as a place for people undergoing treatment to express themselves. The results of the class were regularly exhibited in group exhibitions titled “Exhibition of Images ” starting in 1981, and in 1996, a book titled “Image of the Innner World” was published.
The name “REGARD” was taken from the name of the publishing company that Yamazaki founded. The word means “gaze” in French, and Yamasaki used it to express his desire to “cherish the gaze of each and every human being.”
After Yamasaki’s death, a large number of Student‘s works were stored in the hospital’s warehouse. In this exhibition, we have displayed as many of their works as possible so that visitors can feel the gaze that Yamasaki had directed to the heart of each and every person during his lifetime.
