OYANAGI Kenichi Solo exhibition “Countless Count”
Venue:art space co-jin
OYANAGI Kenichi(1978-)has been painting numbers as a motif since his childhood.
He has continued this practice for nearly 40 years, and when you combine the works he creates at home with those produced at the day-care facility he attends and in painting classes, he has depicted countless numbers in his artwork.
The numbers featured in his works span a variety of series, including those inspired by the car numbers of trains—which he has loved since childhood—numbers that count up continuously from 1, and numbers arranged in a graphic manner.
However, while one can surmise that a certain logic underlies these works, many of them are created according to unique rules that only the artist himself understands. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see a comprehensive collection of OYANAGI’s works to date. We hope you will appreciate the charm of these pieces and the mystery of his artistic expression.
